Custom Drag Crown Commissions: How the Process Works
As the official jeweler of Miss Gay America, we build crowns that have to read from the back row and hold up to the scrutiny of the front row. A custom commission takes that same standard and aims it at your vision. Here is exactly how the process works, from first message to final fitting.
It starts with a conversation
Every commission begins with your concept. Bring reference images, your title or era, the story you want the crown to tell, and any must-have details. The more specific you are about the feeling, the better the design. Regal and classic reads differently from futuristic and dangerous, and both are achievable.
Design and stone layout
From your concept, our crown designer maps the silhouette, the band, and the stone layout. Every stone in an Elea's Closet crown is hand set in prong settings, never glued on as an afterthought, which is what gives our crowns their depth and their durability under stage lights. You will also choose from four plating finishes: silver, gold, rose gold, and gunmetal. Each one changes the crown's entire personality, so this is a design decision, not just a color swatch.
The build
Once the design is locked, the crown is built by hand: framework, settings, stones, finishing. This is slow work on purpose. A crown that looks expensive from twenty feet away is built in the details nobody sees from twenty feet away.
Fitting and final details
Before it ships, your crown is checked for balance, comfort, and finish. A crown should sit like it was made for your head, because it was. If adjustments are needed, they happen now, not after it arrives.
Timing
Build time varies with complexity and the season, and pageant calendars fill fast. If you are commissioning for a specific prelim or crowning, reach out as early as you can so your date is protected.
