How to Pick Your Breastplate Color
Pick your breastplate color right and the plate disappears. All anyone sees is the silhouette. Pick it wrong and the edge along your chest tells on you all night. Every Elea's Closet plate comes in four standard shades, and for the bodies that fall between them, we offer a Color Match service that works toward your actual skin. Here is how the system works, and how to choose inside it.
The four standard shades: start here
Our standard premixed colors are Fair, Suntan, Light Skin Mixed, and Dark Chocolate, and most performers land in one of the four. The trick is matching to the right skin. A plate does not sit against your face, it sits against your chest and neck, so judge the shade there, in bare skin, not against a full beat. Your makeup can run warmer or deeper than your chest without anyone noticing. Your plate cannot. Hold the decision up against the skin the plate will actually touch, and if you are between two shades, the next section is how you break the tie.
Breastplate color under stage light and on camera
Light changes color, so decide in the light that matters most to your work. Check a shade against your chest in plain daylight first. Daylight is the fairest referee you have. Then think about where your audience meets you. If they mostly meet you live, from the tenth row under stage light, the silhouette does the heavy lifting and a close shade match carries the up close moments: backstage, meet and greets, photos with fans at arm's length. If they mostly meet you through a lens, judge the match in photographs, not in the mirror. A camera is blunter than a dressing room mirror, and it will find an edge the mirror forgave. When the daylight test and the camera test disagree, believe the camera.
When a standard shade isn't close enough: Color Match
Color Match is a $40 add on, and here is our own honest description of it: it is a process beyond the standard premixed colors, and the goal is to get your plate closer to your skin tone than any existing color we offer. It is not guaranteed to be an exact match, although sometimes it is. It will be closer. We would rather print that fine print in the guide than bury it, because a performer who understands the process orders it for the right reason: your skin falls between the premixed shades, or your chest and shoulders sit at different depths and no single standard shade splits the difference. To work a match, you upload photos through our color match upload page when you order. Send your chest and neck in plain daylight, no filters, no ring light. The closer your photos are to the truth, the closer we can mix to it.
How to decide: the order we recommend
Color is the third decision, not the first. Size and look come first, because no shade fixes a plate that does not fit; our breastplate fitting guide walks the measurements. Fill comes second, and our gel vs poly fill guide settles that one. Then color: test the standard shades against your chest in daylight. If one blends, you are done, and most performers are done right there. If you fall between shades, add Color Match and send honest photos. Browse the full breastplate collection once your shade is chosen, and remember that nipple styles vary by plate and are shown on each product page, so check the plate you pick.
The goal never changes: the plate disappears, and the fantasy does the talking. Get the color right and nobody in the room is thinking about silicone. They are thinking about you.
