Pageant Packing Checklist: What to Bring to Prelims
Pageant weekend is won in the packing. Forgetting a backup earring back at 11pm in a strange city is a special kind of heartbreak, and it is entirely preventable. Here is the checklist we would hand any contestant heading to prelims.
The jewelry wardrobe
Pack your primary set plus one backup pair of earrings, because earrings take the most abuse. A matched rhinestone jewelry set for each major category (interview, talent, evening gown) keeps every look intentional. Lay each set out in its own pouch so you are not untangling chains at midnight.
Breastplate and care kit
Your silicone breastplate travels in a soft garment bag, never crushed under luggage. Pack mild soap and a soft cloth for rinsing between wears, following our breastplate care guide. If your system uses adhesives, bring more than you think you need.
Crown transport
Crowns travel in hard cases with padding, never loose in a bag. If you are competing for a title, confirm beforehand whether the prelim provides the crown or you bring your own, and if you are dreaming bigger, read how our custom drag crown commissions work.
The emergency kit
Safety pins, fashion tape, a mini sewing kit, extra stone packs from our stones collection with a small tube of fabric-safe glue, bobby pins, and a lint roller. This kit has saved more pageant weekends than talent rehearsals have.
Paperwork and extras
Registration confirmation, music on two separate devices plus a backup drive, headshots, and your contestant number materials. Pack a steamer if your gowns wrinkle, and snacks. Pageant days run long and hungry contestants make mistakes.
Final check
Do a full dress rehearsal pack two nights before you leave, not the morning of. Future you, calm and sparkling at check-in, says thank you.
